This year I decided to create a small animation to celebrate Halloween. Since I had a lot of fun with it, I decided to show you how it was made!
First, let me introduce you to Kaju. Kaju is a lovely ginger kitten that we took in from a shelter. From the very beginning, he has been a fluffy ball of gratitude and purring for us.
His name is not without meaning either! Kaju in Hindi means "cashew nut". Later we found out that it also means "fruit tree" in Japanese!
He was the one who gave me the inspiration for this gif.

Here he is:
I noticed the cute way Kaju walks, so I decided to take a closer look.
Let's take a closer look together
Here is a study of Kajus movement based on the footage.
Then came the character design. I thought: what if I combined this delightful fluffiness with something contrastingly creeppy, such as a cauldron with a skull? And of course a little magical hat. It looks pretty good!
An extra Halloween touch in the form of a dark, atmospheric background.
A few more color changes and finally, my favorite part - animation! I decided to combine After Effects animation (eyes, hat, torso, tail) with frame by frame animation (legs). Of course, I couldn't do without the magic stars flying out of the cauldron!
After that, some After Effect magic and, just like that, my Halloween GIF was created!
Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃🎃🎃
